In 1729 Jonathan Swift anonymously published A Modest Proposal, which not so modestly suggested that Ireland’s impoverished citizens could improve the food supply and make a few bucks by selling their children to Ireland’s wealthier citizens as food.  A nasty mix of humour and ridicule that hopes to incite societal change – classic satire.
